[edit] Introduction
EIT Climate-KIC is the biggest EU innovation initiative for climate friendly technologies. Partners come from throughout the EU and represent higher education, business, research and development entities, governments and non-profit organisations.

Founded in 2010 as a business accelerator for cleantech, EIT Climate-KIC is funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). EIT Climate-KIC is active in 39 countries around the world and operates from 13 locations across Europe, including Bologna, Brussels, London, Warsaw, Paris and Berlin.
The organisation focuses on initiatives to facilitate the move towards sustainable development and a zero carbon economy. It supports innovation through its accelerator incubator programme, which provides seed funding for cleantech ideas proposed by startups and small to medium sized businesses.
[edit] Work in the marketplace
The ‘CityTree Scaler’ is one project that was funded by EIT Climate-KIC. The consortium behind City Tree Scaler was formed to prove the effectiveness of a new smart biotechnological filter for tackling urban air pollution.
Looking beyond 2020, EIT Climate-KIC has offered funding to encourage innovative solutions to reinforce a green economic recovery through several initiatives:
- Venture Funding - for innovative climate ventures for startups and small to medium sized businesses impacted by COVID-19.
- Extraordinary COVID-19 Venture Financing support - for students, entrepreneurs and innovators looking to develop new solutions to inspire societal change.
- EIT Crisis Response Initiative - for innovations in health, climate change, digitisation, sustainable energy, urban mobility, manufacturing and raw materials.
EIT Climate-KIC is also working to support the European Green Deal by providing initiatives that will accelerate the move to zero carbon cities, countries and regions. It has assisted in the launch of more than 2000 climate friendly business ideas.
